So can anyone tell me what it is like to live in the vicinity of 17th and West St. in Homestead? Is it safe? Quite? Would anyone recommend it or not recommend it? I'm looking into buying a house there.

Just a warning - CMU's freshman are moving in tomorrow (and I believe Pitt's as well), which means driving through Oakland is going to suck. Further, driving to/from/through the Waterfront is going to really suck, as lots of people with no idea where they're going will be trying to buy bed sheets and Ramen.
